Course Placement Review - Rising 7th Grade Students
Student Name: ___________________________________
It is the goal of the Howard County Public School System to prepare students for lifelong learning by taking the most
challenging courses in which they can be successful. G/T Placement Committee recommendations are based on multiple
criteria including classroom performance, students’ expressed interest, and results on standardized measures.
This form is for a parent/guardian requesting a course placement different from the recommendation of the G/T
Placement Committee and/or teacher.
It is suggested that the parent/guardian have a conversation with the current teacher and/or G/T Resource Teacher about
the course recommendation so there is an understanding of the rationale behind the committee’s recommendation.
NOTE: If a student is recommended for enrollment in Mathematics 7 but is requesting placement in Algebra I
G/T, a meeting with the middle school G/T Resource Teacher is required for the placement request.
Further information on courses and curriculum expectations can be found in the middle school catalog
(http://www.hcpss.org/academics/). Additional information regarding G/T course expectations is included on the reverse
of this form. If further information is needed in regards to the G/T course expectations, the parent/guardian should
discuss the Course Placement Review with the G/T Resource Teacher.
The student and parent/guardian must understand that it may not be possible to transfer out of the course due to
scheduling limitations. In addition, note that level changes will only be permitted until the mid-point of the course. For
further information please refer to Policy 8020.
Submit this Course Placement Review form electronically by February 15, 2021, if you wish to request a different
placement than the recommendation of the school-based G/T Placement Committee and/or a teacher. Forms received by
this date will be given priority. Requests after this date will be accommodated if space is available.
