1784 Levi Wetherbee (Steele) Farmhouse
Future Use Questionnaire
The Steele Farm Advisory Committee (SFAC) is working with the town, the Boxborough Historical Commission
and the Boxborough Historical Society to stabilize the Levi Wetherbee house located on the Steele Farm property
(484 Middle Road, Boxborough). Levi Wetherbee was one of the original founding members of our town. He and
his father, Silas, both belonged to revolutionary regiments and Silas fought on Battle Road, with Colonial units on
April 19, 1775. Levi’s house is a historic gem ripe with character and brimming with stories of all the families that
have lived there. It holds keys to the history of our town and early nation and desperately needs our attention.
Our initial goal is to stabilize the farmhouse, in two phases over two years, so that it does not continue to
deteriorate. After the stabilization is complete the building will be safe to walk in and we can start to imagine its
future use. We will then have on our hands the exciting opportunity to put this historic gem into use, for town or
other civic purposes.
Over the next few months the SFAC would like to gather input from Boxborough residents as to what uses we can
imagine for the house. Please take a moment to share your thoughts with us.
What do you think the house would be best used for (some suggestions so far include, but are not
limited to, meeting space, extension of the Historic Museum to house collections, act as a living museum for
school groups and other visitors, venue for public functions, etc.)?
Responses may be delivered to: Town Hall, 29 Middle Road, Boxborough or be emailed to SFAC@boxborough-ma.gov
A public meeting will be held to discuss the future use at 7pm on
Thursday, April 19
th
at the Town Hall
We look forward to working with the town and residents to help realize the full potential of this property.
