HISTORY
The Eleanor Starkey Scholarship will be given annually by a trust created under
the Last Will and Testament of Eleanor Starkey who died on December 11, 1978.
Mrs. Starkey’s intentions were to payscholarships for education in music beyond
the high school level for graduates of the Cowanesque Valley High School or such
high school as may take its place in the future.”
SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION
The scholarship award will be an amount determined each year by the
Scholarship Committee. For the grant to be renewed each year you must
maintain a minimum 2.5 cumulative grade point average. If your cumulative
grade point average falls below 2.5, the scholarship will be withdrawn.
APPLICANTS MUST MEET ONE OF THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS:
1. Be a Cowanesque Valley high school senior accepted in an accredited
college or university program meeting the criteria of the following in
descending order of priority.
(1) majoring in music in college
(2) majoring in education, who participated in band or chorus for four years
at Cowanesque Valley High School
(3) majoring in education, who participated in drill flags for four years at
Cowanesque Valley High School
(4) majoring in education, who participated in the school musical for four
years at Cowanesque Valley High School
(5) majoring in education, who participated in any of the above stated music
activities for less than four years at Cowanesque Valley High School
(6) majoring in education in college.
2. Demonstrate academic performance by S.A.T’s, class rank,
recommendations, and strength of student’s high school program.

SELECTION PROCEDURE:
The Scholarship Committee which is composed of the Cowanesque Valley High
School music supervisor, guidance counselor and high school principal, will review
all applications, interview the candidates and determine recipients based in order
of the criteria in Paragraph 1 on Page 1 giving priority to those students majoring in
music in college.
SCHOLARSHIP GUIDELINES
The scholarship award may be used to help pay for tuition, books, and room and
board charges. Payments from the Trust are made directly to the university or
college. Upon receipt of the tuition statement and transcripts of grades from the
previous semester showing a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or better, the
Trustee will disburse the funds to the university or college.
Application Instructions
STUDENT APPLICANT:
A. Complete the Application and return to the Cowanesque Valley High School
Guidance office along with a copy of high school transcripts (grades 9-12)
including S.A.T. results and current class rank no later than April 15th of
the current year.
B. Attach to the application the letter of acceptance from the college you will
attend.
C. Scholarship recipients who wish to apply for renewal of the award should
apply, by letter, to the following address. A copy of your college transcript
should be included.
