ADDITIONAL GRADUATION AND PROFICIENCY REQUIREMENTS
UNIT AND SCHOLARSHIP
REQUIREMENT
Students must satisfactorily complete the
following in order to meet associate degree
requirements:
A minimum of 60 units of degree level
coursework.
Satisfy all graduation requirements.
Maintain a minimum 2.00 or higher grade
point average for all Southwestern
College general education coursework.
All courses required for the major or area
of emphasis must be completed with a “C”
or better in each course.
OTHER
Only complete one additional course (3 units)
from Area A, B, C or D if needed to satisfy the
18 unit minimum requirement per Title 5
Associate Degree Requirements.
PROFICIENCY REQUIREMENTS
Writing Proficiency Requirement
The English Writing Proficiency requirement is
met by satisfactory completion of one course,
with a minimum grade of "C" or better or “P
pass-no pass formerly “Cr/NC” Credit/No

Reading proficiency is met by:
Completion of Reading 158 or ADN 140 or
ENGL 115 or ENGL115H with a minimum grade
of “C” or better or “P” pass-no pass formerly
“Cr/NC” Credit/No Credit.
Mathematics Proficiency Requirement
Mathematics proficiency can be satisfied in one
of the following ways:
Satisfactory completion (grade of “C
or better or “Pass”) of MATH 60 or
higher-numbered mathematics course,
except support courses.
Satisfactory completion (minimum of 3
semester units with a grade of “C” or
better) of a transferable statistics
course in any discipline (e.g. PSYC
270/SOC 270 at Southwestern
College). As appropriate consultation
will occur with Southwestern College
discipline faculty.
Students are encouraged to satisfy the
Mathematics proficiency through
coursework and to pursue mathematics
education beyond the minimum
proficiency level required for the
associate degree. Transfer students
should be aware that the California
State University (CSU) and the
University of California (UC) entry-level
math examinations require proficiency
above the level of Intermediate Algebra
(MATH 60).
RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT
Students must satisfactorily complete
the following in order to meet associate
degree requirements:
