BURN PERMIT APPLICATION
Application Submittal
Applications can be submitted in person or mailed to either of the following locations:
1. Maricopa County Air Quality Department, 3800 N. Central Ave., Suite 1400, Phoenix, AZ 85012
2. One Stop Shop, 501 N. 44th St., Suite 200, Phoenix, AZ 85008
A separate, site-specific burn permit application is required for each burn site location. A burn site location is:
Contiguous areas under the same ownership; or
A geographic area not exceeding one mile in length or width where all areas on which burning will occur are under
the same ownership.
An on-site inspection will be conducted before approving the burn permit application. The purpose of the inspection is to
ensure that the information provided is accurate and complete, and that no prohibited materials will be burned.
After the burn permit has been issued, you must call the local fire department and the Maricopa County Air Quality
Department burn hotline at 602-506-6400 before the fire is ignited, to obtain permission to ignite the fire and to ensure that it
is not a No Burn Day. A daily no-burn status can also be found at Maricopa.gov/AQ
.

Notice of Regulatory Reform in accordance with A.R.S. §11-1604:
A. A county shall not base a licensing decision in whole or in part on a licensing requirement or condition that is not specifically authorized by statute,
rule, ordinance or delegation agreement. A general grant of authority does not constitute a basis for imposing a licensing requirement or condition unless
the authority specifically authorizes the requirement or condition.
B. Unless specifically authorized, a county shall avoid duplication of other laws that do not enhance regulatory clarity and shall avoid dual permitting to
the maximum extent practicable.
C. This section does not prohibit county flexibility to issue licenses or adopt ordinances or codes.
D. A county shall not request or initiate discussions with a person about waiving that person's rights.
E. This section may be enforced in a private civil action and relief may be awarded against a county. The court may award reasonable attorney fees,
damages and all fees associated with the license application to a party that prevails in an action against a county for a violation of this section.
F. A county employee may not intentionally or knowingly violate this section. A violation of this section is cause for disciplinary action or dismissal
pursuant to the county's adopted personnel policy.
G. This section does not abrogate the immunity provided by section 12-820.01 or 12-820.02.

For fires allowed between April
1 and September 30, ignite the

extinguish the fire by 6:00 p.m.

BURN PERMIT APPLICATION

Presumptive Permission to Burn
Once the Maricopa County Air Quality Department (MCAQD) has inspected the burn site and a burn permit is issued, you
will have the permission to burn as long as the following four steps are followed:
1. Check the MCAQD website at Maricopa.gov/AQ to determine if a High Pollution Advisory (HPA) or No Burn Day
has been declared. If a HPA or No Burn Day has been declared, you may not burn on that day.
2. Call your local fire department or dispatcher center and notify them of your intent to burn. If they do not give
permission to burn, you may not burn on that day.
3. Review and comply with the requirements of Rule 314. Be sure to comply with the prohibited dates and schedule
listed on the first page of the Burn Permit Application.
