It is preferable that the student log back into
his/her FAFSA and request the IRS database
match as this will expedite the verification
process. Log into student’s FAFSA, select
“Make FAFSA Corrections,” and go to the
Financial Information section of the form. Follow
instructions to determine if you are eligible to
use this tool.
Tax Return Transcript directions:
To obtain a 2012 IRS Tax Return Transcript, go to
www.IRS.gov and click on the “Order a Return or Account
Transcript” link, or call 1-800-908-9946. Make sure to request
the “IRS Tax Return Transcript” and not the “IRS Tax Account
Transcript.” Use the Social Security Number and date of birth
of the first person listed on the 2012 IRS income tax return,
and the address on file with the IRS (normally this will be the
address used on the 2012 IRS income tax return).
